Our church recently studied the Experiencing God series in which the emphasis is on hearing from the Lord. In fact, it was implied that if you have not heard from God, you may not have salvation. Few people that I know have actually heard the voice of the Lord, and when they do it is dramatic!
We seem to not consider the leading of the Lord. Actually, every time we pray the “Lord’s Prayer,” the model that the Lord Jesus gave us, we ask to be led that very day. Personally, I have found the leading of the Lord much more evident in my life than hearing His voice. Let me give you an example.
My son was born in Miami, Florida. When he was four years old, I was the accountant of a construction company that specialized in the tall condominiums being built on ocean-front property. Money was pouring in from the banks and many of these towering condos were built on speculation. One day it was noticed that there were 40,000 unsold condominium apartments on the Gold Coast of Florida. Construction stopped immediately, sometimes when only the foundations had been laid. The company I worked for closed.
My wife and I felt that South Florida was not a good place to raise our son. We attempted to move to Gainesville, Florida which is about 250 miles north, but could find no employment there. We were then immediately led to move to Tallahassee, Florida. In Tallahassee there were none of the obstacles that we encountered in Gainesville. We quickly were able to find employment, a home and a new church family. We settled there.
Seven years later, I had a private accounting practice and my wife was the business manager of a private school. Our son, then eleven years old, was struggling in public school. We did not understand this because we knew that he was a bright child. He was reading at age five. The director of the school where my wife worked suggested that she administer a series of tests with our son. It was determined that he had several characteristics of dyslexia.
Here is the point of this long story. Our son was eleven years old and suffered a condition of which we were totally unaware. But God knew! My wife was employed at the only school for 300 miles in any direction that specialized in teaching dyslexic children! Please do not tell me that this was a coincidence. Our loving Heavenly Father had moved us to the specific place where our precious child could receive the necessary education to compensate for his condition. Our son went from struggling in school to returning to a public school and graduating with honors!
Praise the Lord! Our God is great! He led us to where we needed to be years before we even knew of the need. God is the King of the Universe. Nothing is beyond His abilities and knowledge. We sometimes get off of the Lord’s intended path, but He always manages to lead us back to the path. Praise Him always and ever!
